As parents, all we really want are happy, healthy children. I know that personally I have spent a lot of time in internal knots as I tried to navigate my way through particular health issues with my children over the years.
This has lead me to develop a keen interest in brands aimed at keeping children’s health in tip top shape, alongside an ever increasing thirst for knowledge around the links between diet and both physical and mental health and the link between mental and physical health in children and how these are so closely intertwined.
I’ve recently been made aware of a brand called Baba West, linked to the well known midwife Zita West and produced in partnership with mother of three Leonora Bamford.
Baba West have a number of helpful health-related products for children, a few of which I have featured below, in case they can be of help to your family.
Whilst this supplement is for children over 3, there is another product available for children under 3 years of age. Children from age 3 to their school years go through a tremendous amount of change developmentally and cognitively. It baffles me when I think about it. I regularly get reminders from google photos of things I videoed or took photos of several years ago and it’s mesmerising to see the changes in the children.
Their voices, the way they move, the words they use, their height and so on. Then I look at them now and can’t quite process they are the same person and how many changes have taken place.
Vitamin D is associated with immune and gut health which is never more important than in these early years of building their immunity. It helps to support the development of your child’s bones, teeth, muscles and supports healthy immune function.
This spray is brilliant. it is very easy to use, the children LOVE the taste so don’t protest – it’s a strawberry flavour and sugar-free, with no artificial colours or preservatives. One spray provides the government recommended daily dose of 400iu (10μg).
Gut health is an area that fascinates me. I’ve seen vast improvements in one of my children’s eczema from using probiotics in the past, as one example. Research is beginning to show that one of the most important ways to support your child’s health is to start from the inside out – with their gut. Friendly bacteria can be an easy addition to their daily routine to boost their gut health, which in turn impacts their digestion, immune health, skin health and mental wellbeing. It is literally all aspects of life, I find this fascinating.
The balance of the gut microbiome is very important, and a child’s population of friendly bacteria can be easily disrupted. The microbiome has been described as the body’s ecosystem, meaning it is crucial. The childhood years can be a very challenging time for the microbiome. Factors such as school, stress, high sugar and a low fibre diet, medications/antibiotics, and busy lifestyles can all impact your child’s microbiome composition and reduce levels of friendly bacteria. Add in a fussy eater and things can get out of whack pretty quickly! So, giving your children friendly bacteria can provide them with that extra support they may need in the hustle and bustle of daily life.
The Baba West Kidskalm sachets are really good. They are a natural dietary supplement that has been specifically formulated for children aged 12 months and older. Each amazing tasteless and easily dissolvable sachet contains 6 billion friendly bacteria from one of the world’s most researched strains – Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG (LGG)* – which has been clinically proven to be safe and are naturally present in a healthy child’s gut microbiome.
Kidskalm also contains added natural fibre, which acts as a food source for your child’s gut microbiome, helping to keep their microbes healthy and happy. As a parent, this product makes me feel very reassured.
This product appears to be similar to something I’ve written about before. If you are a regular reader, you will have seen my posts abut the benefits of Sambucol before. This product is a combination of natural Alpine Elderberry, Blackberry and Rosehip and is packed full of antioxidants and vitamins. With extra Vitamin C, it helps to support the normal functioning of the immune system in each delicious dose. This formula has 25% less sugar than the best selling elderberry syrup and other elderberry syrups on the market.
Developed specifically for children 12 months+ to support immune health. You can give a single dose in summer and a double dose in winter. You can add to juice or water if that helps.
Having a bunged up nose is no fun for anyone. We’ve used products like Vicks and Snuffle Babe for years to unblock bunged up noses and try to help everyone to have a better nights sleep. The problem with these products is that they are messy, mark clothing and bedding and children often don’t like the feel of them.
This pillow mist offers a great alternative. The natural solution is a gentle yet effective mix of essential oils with anti-viral and antibacterial properties to help relieve blocked and runny noses. Enriched with Eucalyptus, Pine and Thyme oils for your children.
It smells amazing. I would say it is subtle enough not to be overpowering, but at the same time, very effective.
Suitable for children 6 months+.
All of these products feel to me like great options to have in your toolkit as parents. Parenting can be stressful and as parents we often worry if we are doing the best for our children, it’s reassuring to have products you can trust to help you along this journey.
